Resumen de The doctrine of victorious defeat in the rhetoric of confederate veterans

Howard Dorgan

  • Confederate defeat, in 1865, left the South in search of an apologia which would satisfactorily explain the sharp variance between ante‐bellum expectations and post‐bellum realities. The following essay explores a part of that developing apologia, a reasoning chain frequently employed between 1889 and 1900 in the ceremonial oratory of Confederate veterans.
