El presente artículo es un avance de investigación donde se plantean interrogantes preliminares, que intentarán dar cuenta de las actividades comerciales tildadas como "ilegales" o "de contrabando" por el marco regulador de la ley. El espacio elegido es el Oriente entrerriano a mediados del siglo XIX, en el cual se sitúa el caso seleccionado: "El matrimonio Chilotegui'; acusado de introducir clandestinamente efectos, que poseían el agravante de ser botín de los saqueos ocurridos en Paysandú durante la ocupación de Rivera. Este marco permite indagar las prácticas ilegales del comercio y la acción de los funcionarios judiciales frente a este "delito en una región de frontera permeable e inserta en un circuito comercial dinámico que no le es ajeno.

This article is an advancement in the investigation of preliminary questions attempting to give an account of commercial activities called "illegal" or 'smuggling'' by the regulating framework of the Law. The chosen place is the east of Entre Rios in the mid 19th century, setting of the selected case of the "Chilotegui couple", accused of clandestinely entering the booty of plunders in Paysandú duting the Rivera occupation. This framework has permitted the study of illegal commercial practices, and the action of the judicial officials dealing with this crime, in a dynamic commercial circuit of a permeable frontier region where such activity was not uncommon.
