Resumen de Què passa quan incorporem la perspectiva de gènere en la biologia? I com ho podem fer?

  La mirada amb perspectiva de gènere des de la biologia pot ser una peça clau per a assolir l’equitat i la inclusivitat de les persones i per a treballar cap als objectius de desenvolupament sostenible i la justícia ambiental acceptant la diversitat i la complexitat de la vida. En aquest treball ens endinsarem en el coneixement de la recerca feta per dones com Lynn Margulis en relació amb l’evolució de les espècies per cooperació, Jane Goodall i l’estudi dels compor­taments dels primats no bèl·lics i sense jerarquies, o la proposta d’Ellen Swallow Richards de concebre l’estudi de l’ecologia com una sola salut que engloba el planeta Terra, les altres espècies i els humans. Coneixent i fent visi­bles treballs com aquests, podem entendre que la investigació i les ciències biològiques poden seguir camins, obtenir resultats i tenir preguntes de recer­ca diferents si tenim en compte la perspectiva de gènere.

  En aquest article també s’apunten algunes idees i recursos per a poder aplicar la perspectiva de gènere en la biologia. El primer pas, transversal a la resta d’accions, és superar l’androcentrisme en la biologia, aconseguir la igual­tat entre gèneres i col·locar-los tots al centre, i no només el masculí, com s’ha fet al llarg de la història androcèntrica de la ciència. També cal actualitzar la biologia a les noves realitats socioculturals entorn de la perspectiva de gènere no binària i interseccional. Fa anys que tenim treballs, llibres, articles, mate­rials sobre com aplicar la perspectiva de gènere en la biologia; les eines ja hi són, només cal que passem de la teoria a la pràctica i les utilitzem.

  The gender perspective in biology can be a key factor in achieving equity and inclusiveness for people and in advancing towards the achievement of sus­tainable development goals and environmental justice by accepting the di­versity and complexity of life. In this study we look into the research done by such women as Lynn Margulis on the evolution of species through coopera­tion; Jane Goodall on the behavior of non-violent and non-hierarchical pri­mates; and Ellen Swallow Richards on the study of ecology as an overarching state of health encompassing the planet Earth, other species and humans. By acquainting ourselves with studies like these and helping to spread the knowledge of them, it may come to be understood that research and the bio­logical sciences may follow different paths, obtain different results and pose different research questions if the gender perspective is taken into account.

  This article also points out some ideas and resources that can allow the gender perspective to be applied in biology. The first step, which crosscuts the rest of the actions, is to overcome androcentrism in biology, achieve equality of genders and place them all at the center instead of just the male gender, as has been the case throughout the androcentric history of science. It is also necessary to update biology in accordance with the new socio-cultural realities involving the non-binary intersectional gender perspective. Studies, books, articles and materials of all types on how to apply the gender perspec­tive in biology have been available for years, so we already have the necessary tools and all we need to do is to move from theory to practice and use them.
