  • Resumen
    • We all know that the tax reform promoted by Martín de Garay in 1817 had the objective of resolving some of the serious problems that the hacienda was going through during the first stage of the reign of Fernando VII. We all know that the reform ended up being a re-sounding failure. On the other hand, current historiography still does not seem to be clear that this liberal minister was capable of launching an enormously ambitious cadastral and statistical operation in a very short time: the General Statistics of the Kingdom, 1817-1820. Made up of the surveys and documents that made it possible to form the general wealth notebooks of all the rural areas of Spain (except in the Basque Country and Navarre). In fact, and despite the work carried out in recent decades, there are many authors who doubt, or even deny, whether these statistical compilations were ever carried out in practice. The objective of this work is to bring to light for the first time the documentary funds, related to the reforming work of Martín de Garay, preserved in the municipal archives of Requena (Valencia), Ciudad Rodrigo (Salamanca) and Ronda (Málaga). and with this, contribute to increase the number of surveys and notebooks located up to now and to demonstrate the importance that this documentation contributes as a historical source with applicability in the fields of economic history, historical geography or geohistory.
