    El texto aborda cuatro cuestiones que van de lo general a lo particular. En primer lugar,la relevancia del libro y la ilustración en la época victoriana; en segundo lugar, la aportación del movimiento Arts & Crafts al renacer del libro y la ilustración; en tercer lugar, la pervivencia de los clásicos, y en concreto de las fábulas y leyendas en la cultura del XIX. Se concluye destacando la labor de Walter Crane por encima de otros ilustradores, poniendo como ejemplo el libro sobre las fábulas de Esopo, Baby’s Own Aesop, de 1887. A través del análisis de las obras de distintos ilustradores victorianos coetáneos a Crane, podremos enfatizar la labor teórica, reflexiva y práctica del autor, afirmando que, gracias a su magisterio y obras, se produjo un cambio significativo en la expresión plástica que tendría su continuidad en el diseño gráfico y editorial del siglo XX.

    This text deals with four questions that go from the general to the particular. Firstly, the relevance of books and illustration in the Victorian era; secondly, the contribution of the Arts & Crafts movement to this revival of books and illustration; thirdly, the survival of the classics, and specifically fables and legends in 19th century culture; thirdly, the survival of the classics, and specifically of fables and legends in 19th century culture, to conclude by highlighting the work of Walter Crane above that of other illustrators, giving as an example the book Baby’s Own Aesop, 1887. Through the analysis of the works of different Victorian illustrator’s contemporary to Crane, we will be able to emphasize the theoretical, reflexive, and practical work of the author, affirming that, thanks to his teaching and works, a significant change was produced in plastic expression that would have its continuity in the graphic and editorial design of the 20th century.
