En el texto, el autor presenta una lectura de las obras de dos autores mexicanos, Guillermo Bonfil Batalla y Roger Bartra, orientada por la categoría de las “geografías imaginadas”. Su tesis es que ambos pensadores desafían, cada uno a su manera, las “geografías imaginadas” que dominan a la “cultura política” de México. Y es justamente al indicar que los problemas políticos y sociales de un país, como los debates en torno al territorio y las divisiones geográficas, en un sentido material e imaginario, que en este texto se quiere demostrar que la categoría de la identidad cultural no logra captar los retos ante los que se encuentran las sociedades latinoamericanas.

The author presents in the text a reading of the works of two Mexican writers, namely, Guillermo Bonfil Batalla and Roger Bartra, that is directed by the category of the ‘imagined geographies’. His thesis consists in the idea that both thinkers independently confront the ‘imagined geographies’ that govern the ‘political culture’ in Mexico. And after displaying the political and social problems of a country as debates around the question of territory and geographical demarcation, in a material and imaginary sense, the author in this text demonstrates that the category of cultural identity cannot grasp the challenges of Latinoamerican societies.
