Aunque la guerra de la Independencia, trajo consigo una serie de cambios tanto políticos como económicos, estos no llegarían a presentarse de la misma forma y en igual magnitud en todas las regiones del entonces virreinato peruano. Por ello, el presente trabajo busca conocer y comprender las principales causas que llevaron al surgimiento de Quilca como principal puerto de Arequipa a fines de la colonia, así también, las vicisitudes que debió enfrentar durante los difíciles años marcados por la guerra y, finalmente, los factores que influyeron en su reemplazo definitivo por el puerto de Islay, en los albores del periodo republicano.

Although the war of the Independence brought with it a series of political and economic changes, these would not come to appear in the same way and to the same extent in all the regions of the then Peruvian viceroyalty. For this reason, the present work seeks to know and understand the main causes that led to the emergence of Quilca as the main port of Arequipa at the end of the colony, as well as the vicissitudes that it had to face during the difficult years marked by the war and finally, the factors that influenced its definitive replacement by the port of Islay, at the dawn of the republican period.
