Κασ(σ)-, Κασσι- y Καστι-en la antroponimia griega y sus cognados indoeuropeos

    La etimología del nombre propio Κασσιέπεια y de sus variantes Κασσιόπεια y Κασσιόπη no ha sido dilucidada hasta el momento. Abandonando la idea de que se trate de un nombre pre-griego, en este trabajo se intentará probar que se trata de un compuesto bahuvrīhi conformado por un nomen actionis *k̂n̥s-ti-, ‘anuncio’ y *u̯éku - ‘palabra, voz’, por tanto ‘la de voz/palabras que contienen anuncios’. Asimismo, se defenderá que el primer miembro del compuesto, *k̂n̥s-ti-, no solo se encuentra en multitud de ocasiones en antroponimia griega, sino que, además, es posible encontrarlo en al menos otros cuatro dialectos históricos del indoeuropeo en los distintos planos de la toponomástica, siendo así un importante constituyente de nombres propios que, dada su distribución y extensión, podría datar de época de comunidad indoeuropea

    The etymology of the proper name Κασσιέπεια and its variants Κασσιόπεια and Κασσιόπη has not been elucidated so far. Thus, abandoning the idea of a pre-Greek anthroponym, this paper will attempt to prove that it is a bahuvrīhi consisting of a nomen actionis *k̂n̥s-ti- ‘announce’ and u̯éku - ‘word, voice’, hence ‘that of voice/words containing announces’. It will also be argued that the first member of the compound, *k̂n̥s-ti-, is not only found on many occasions in Greek anthroponymy but can also be found in at least four other historical dialects of Indo-European comprising several toponomastic categories and constituting an important formant of proper names which, given its distribution and extension, could date back to the time of the Indo-European common period.
