Resumen de Elezioni politiche italiane 2022 Analisi del voto

Guglielmo Bernabei

  • An analysis of the Italian political elections, which took place in September 2022, is really necessary at this moment. From the resignation of Mario Draghi to the triumph of Giorgia Meloni and the political future of Italy, which contemplated a hard electoral campaign and the Rosatellum electoral system. The electoral results are not too different from what was predicted in the weeks before. Most of the parties had significant fluctuations, such as the Lega and the Movimento 5 Stelle. It clearly emerges that the success of Fratelli d’Italia was also based on incoming votes from the Movimento 5 Stelle and the Lega, if compared to 2018, while recovery from abstention was limited. The bad result of the Lega, compared to its success in the 2019 European elections, has influenced the abstention. In this context, more than 25% of voters stayed at home in the last elections. Regarding the Democratic Party, it essentially counted on its own pool as it failed to attract new voters. However, nowadays, all the forces represented in the new Parliament are invited to converge to become protagonists of the necessary season of reforms, both internally and at European level, relaunching, in particular, its support for the proposal put forward by the European Parliament to launch a Convention for the reform of the Treaties and give concrete follow up to demands of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
