  Rafael Altamira (1866-1951) fue uno de los intelectuales españoles más importantes de su tiempo, destacando sus aportaciones a campos tales como la historia, el derecho y el periodismo. Sin embargo, sería erróneo separar sus contribuciones a estas materias de su pensamiento político. El presente artículo pretende una aproximación a su figura intelectual y orientación política, que se movió en los límites de una ideología republicana liberal-progresista, a través del análisis de sus textos y fuentes secundarias existentes.

  Rafael Altamira (1866-1951) was one of the foremost Spanish intellectuals of his time, having contributed to fields such as history, law and journalism. However, it would be wrong to separate his contributions to these fields from his political thought. This article offers an approach to his intellectual figure and political orientation at the limits of a liberal-progressive republican ideology, through the analysis of his texts and other secondary sources.
