Resumen de Humanización del cuidado de los pacientes pediátricos hospitalizados

  El término humanización hace referencia al proceso mediante el cual se trata de hacer a algo o a alguien más humano. Hasta hace años había una percepción, casi normalizada en nuestra sociedad, de que los hospitales estaban solo para curar, que eran lugares fríos, un lugar donde nadie, y menos un niño, querría estar.

  Con el paso del tiempo y la evolución de nuestra sociedad, se ha llegado a una conclusión casi generalizada: los hospitales, especialmente los que tratan niños, deben estar concebidos como algo más. Deberían ser lugares donde además de cubrir las necesidades derivadas del proceso de enfermedad o de la causa de hospitalización, se tenga muy presente una visión holística del niño hospitalizado, lo que necesariamente incluye prestar atención a sus padres o familiares más cercanos, esos que los van a acompañar durante su estancia.

  Se trata pues de ofrecer una acogida cálida, así como hacer lo posible para que la experiencia de la hospitalización sea lo menos traumática posible para los niños y sus padres.

  Distintas iniciativas y proyectos se llevan a cabo en el día a día de los hospitales, muchos de ellos pensados e implantados por diferentes fundaciones, pero todos dirigidos a un mismo fin, que la humanización del cuidado de los niños hospitalizados sea una realidad. Varias de ellas se recogen y explican en este trabajo.

  The term humanization refers to the process of trying to make something or someone more human. There was a perception until a few years ago that was almost normalized in our society. Hospitals were considered facilities just for treating patients, cold places where no one, least of all a young child, would like to spend time in them.

  Over time and with the progress of our society it has come to the almost generalized conclusion that hospitals, especially childrens’ ones, should aim for more. They should be places where a holistic view of the hospitalized child is considered in addition to meeting the needs arising from the disease or the cause of hospitalization. This necessarily includes paying attention to their parents or close relatives who will accompany the children during their stay.

  The aim of humanization is therefore to offer a warm welcome and to do everything possible to make the hospitalization a less traumatic experience for both the children and their parents.

  Different initiatives and projects are carried out daily in hospitals, many of them designed and implemented by different foundations, but all aimed at the same goal, which is to make real the humanization of the care of hospitalized children. Several of them have been gathered and explained in this paper.
