En Estacio, Tebaida I 223 debe preferirse la lectura ire per illicitum pelagus, germane, dedisti al ire per illicitum pelago, germane, dedisti habitualmente impreso por los editores. El pasaje no hace referencia a la narración ovidiana del diluvio (Met. I 252-347) como hasta ahora se ha entendido, sino a la apertura de los mares tal como la había planteado Valerio Flaco (I 640-646).

In Statius, Thebaid I 223 the reading ire per illicitum pelagus, germane, dedisti must be preferred to the ire per illicitum pelago, germane, dedisti usually printed by editors. This passage does not refer to the Ovidian narration of the deluge (Met. I 252-347) as it has been hitherto understood, but rather to the opening of the seas as it had been posed by Valerius Flaccus (I 640-646).
