Resumen de Vigilar y controlar: la importancia de las recaudaciones de la Junta Superior de Sanidad sobre las prostitutas de Yucatán, 1891-1915

  Este artículo examina el impacto de la Junta Superior de Sanidad en el control de la pros-titución, siendo uno de sus ejes principales el control fiscal a las mujeres públicas, esto enmarcado en el fortalecimiento del poder de la medicina científica a finales del siglo XIX. Se enfoca en la medicalización de la sociedad en el contexto del régimen porfiria-no, donde la medicina se infiltró en los aspectos íntimos de la vida cotidiana; un aspecto importante para la Junta fue el control de la prostitución, que logró mediante la imple-mentación de regulaciones higiénico-legales para erradicar a las prostitutas clandesti-nas, consideradas portadoras de enfermedades. El control de la actividad prostibularia significó, además de un medio profiláctico para las enfermedades venéreas, un ingreso importante a las arcas de la Junta Superior de Sanidad, estos ingresos incluían cobros de obligaciones, cuotas y lugares específicos para ejercer la prostitución. Se analiza el impacto económico de estos pagos en la Junta Superior de Sanidad y cómo los médicos utilizaron dichas recaudaciones, permitiendo expandir sus actividades a otros ámbitos de la sanidad pública y funcionar casi de manera autónoma del erario del Estado.

  This article examines the impact of the Junta Superior de Sanidad in the control of pros-titution, being one of its axes the fiscal control of the public women, this in the marc of the strengthening of the scientific medicine in the ends of XIX century. It focuses on the medicalization of the society in the context of Porfirian regimen, when the medicine in-filtrated in the intimated aspects of the daily life; one of the important items for the Junta was the prostitution control, which was achieved through the implementation of hygie-nic-legal regulations to eradicate clandestine prostitutes, considered carriers of diseases. The control of the prostibulary activity significant, in addition to a prophylactic medium for venereal diseases, an important collection to the arks of the Junta Superior de Sa-nidad, these collections included payments of obligations, dues and specifics places to exercise of prostitution. It’s analyzed the economic impact of this payments in the Junta Superior de Sanidad and how the doctors used these collections, allowing expanded his activities to other ambits of the public sanity and work almost in autonomous matter of the public treasury.
