    Mediante este trabajo nos hemos acercado al tema de la Beneficencia y la asistencia social. Nuestro objetivo ha sido describir la evolución que se ha producido en este apartado, desde finales del siglo XVII hasta las primeras décadas del siglo XX. Para cumplir nuestros propósitos hemos diferenciado tres épocas; una primera en la que la asistencia a los mas desfavorecidos quedaba a expensas de la Iglesia y de algunos acaudalados bienhechores, una segunda etapa que coincidiría con los intentos ilustrados y reformistas de fines del siglo XVIII, que enlazaría con la legislación liberal de mediados del XIX. Según ésta, el Estado toma cartas en el asunto, en perjuicio de la institución eclesial. Por último a fines de la centuria pasada y principios de la actual, comienza a desarrollarse el llamado “Estado del Bienestar". Para observar este proceso, hemos tomado como referencia el municipio de Andoain.

    With this investigation, we pretend to know how the way was functioning the Beneficience and the social services in Andoain from the last part of the XVIIth century to the decade of 1930's taking the example of a village like Andoain. We have been characterized three different ages: on the first, the Church and rich persons dominated the charity and the State was not taking part of this question. On the second one, beginning on the Illustration Age and finishing at the time of the Liberal Governments (on the middle of the past century), the State and also the other public institucions (the regional Government of Gipuzkoa and the city councils) were beginning to take the reins of the Beneficience, to the prejudice of the traditional benefactors. Finally, on the last part of the XIXth century, owing to the public Authorities action, it's possible to watch how the "Welfare State" began to run.

    Ikerketa honek Benefizentzia eta Giza-Asistentzia hobeto ezagutzeko parada eman digu. Gure asmorik nagusiena, esparru honetan eman den bilakaera ikertzea izan da eta horretarako, Andoain bezelako ingurune ez-hiritar bat aukeratu dugu. Aipatutako prozesu historiko honetan, hiru garai ezberdin berezi daitezke; lehendabizikoan Eliza eta Ongizaleen eskuzabaltasunak baldintzatzen dituzte behartsuenganako laguntzak. Bigarren epealdian, hasieran ilustratuen eraginez eta gero gobernu liberalen agindupean, Estatuak geroz eta partehartze handiagoa izango du Elizaren kaltetan. Dena den, XIX. azken aldirarte guk ezagutzen dugun Ongizate sozialaren lehen pausoak ez ziren eman.
