    L’article se centra en tres llibres d’escriptors catalans contemporanis –Off Barcelona. Itinerari iniciàtic fora ciutat d’Ignasi Riera, CAT. Un anglès viatja per Catalunya per veure si existeix de Matthew Tree i Última oda a Barcelona de Lluís Calvo i Jordi Valls– que tenen com a tret comú el viatge per la perifèria de Barcelona. Aquests textos permeten reflexionar sobre la forma i el significat que adopta el viatge a finals del segle XX i principis del segle XXI. En ells s’estableixen formes de viatjar alternatives al turisme de masses i noves maneres d’observar, percebre i entendre l’espai urbà i la capitalitat catalana, alhora que es replantegen les tradicionals dicotomies centre/perifèria, proper/llunyà i familiar/exòtic.

    The article focuses on three books by contemporary Catalan writers –Off Barcelona. Itinerari iniciàtic fora ciutat by Ignasi Riera, CAT. Un anglès viatja per Catalunya per veure si existeix by Matthew Tree and Última oda a Barcelona by Lluís Calvo i Jordi Valls–, all based on a journey through the periphery of Barcelona. These texts allow us to reflect on the form and the meaning of travel at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. They establish new modes for travelling as an alternative to mass tourism and new ways of observing, perceiving and understanding both the urban space and the Catalan capitality. Also, they rethink the traditional dichotomies center/periphery, near/far and familiar/exotic.
