    The arguments present here are based on the premise that the reading of the urban form contributes to aspects that are beyond the understanding of the physical-spatial aspects of the territory. This text is a preliminary result of the master's research that includes mapping as an instrument of reading and morphological analysis. The research proposes as a method of morphological reading two objects of analysis: a) the categorization of the different types of occupation of urban land as the spatial organization resulting from the action of different agents with different interests; and b) the location of the works implemented on the street system (new streets, implementations, enlargements, etc.). The work takes as temporal clippings the urban transformations that occurred in the period between 2006 and 2021 and, as a territorial cut- out, the cities of Cuiabá and Várzea Grande located in the State of Mato Grosso, central Region of Brazil. As preliminary results it is perceived that the location of public investments on the road system ends up reinforcing the process of socio-spatial segregation, favoring some locations of the city over others. The proposed method allows us to understand some aspects of the urbanization pattern and the socio-spatial dynamics identified in these municipalities, which hold similar processes with other Brazilian cities.

    As argumentações aqui apresentadas partem da premissa de que a leitura da forma urbana contribui para além da compreensão dos aspectos físico-espaciais do território. O artigo abrange os resultados preliminares da pesquisa de mestrado, em curso, que inclui o mapeamento como instrumento de leitura e análise morfológica das transformações edilícias preponderantes nas quadras urbanas, assim como as principais transformações viárias. A pesquisa propõe como método de leitura morfológica dois objetos de análise: a) a categorização dos diferentes tipos de ocupação do solo urbano quanto a organização espacial resultante da ação de diferentes interesses e agentes; e, b) a localização das obras implementadas sobre o sistema viário (vias novas, em obras, alargamentos etc.). O presente trabalho toma como recortes temporal e territorial as transformações urbanas ocorridas no período entre 2006 e 2021, nas cidades de Cuiabá e Várzea Grande. Como resultados preliminares da análise, percebe-se que a localização dos investimentos públicos sobre o sistema viário acaba por reforçar o processo de segregação socioespacial, favorecendo algumas localizações da cidade em detrimento de outras. O método proposto possibilita compreender alguns aspectos do padrão de urbanização e das dinâmicas socioespaciais identificadas nestes municípios, que guardam processos semelhantes com outras cidades brasileiras.
