La literatura académica y hemerográfica latinoamericana suele recuperar acríticamente el discurso del Gobierno de la República Popular China sobre las relaciones con América Latina y el Caribe. Esta actitud tiende a sobredimensionar el papel del Gobierno chino y a subvalorar el del estadounidense en el marco del combate contra la pandemia del SARS-CoV-2. A contrapelo de la corriente dominante en América Latina y el Caribe, el texto analiza la participación de ambos Gobiernos en la provisión de insumos sanitarios y de vacunas COVID-19 en los marcos de las relaciones Gobierno a Gobierno y multilateral de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud, para demostrar que las autoridades estadounidenses han sido más proactivas que las chinas.

Latin American academic and press literature tends to uncritically recover the discourse of the government of the People’s Republic of China on relations with Latin America and the Caribbean. This attitude tends to overestimate the role of the Chinese government and underestimate that of the United States in the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Contrary to the dominant current in Latin America and the Caribbean, the text analyzes the participation of both governments in the provision of health supplies and vaccines COVID-19 within the government-to-government frameworks and in the multilateral structures of the Pan American Health Organization, to demonstrate that the US authorities have been more proactive than the Chinese.
