  En los últimos 125 años, el sistema bancario español ha experimentado grandes transformaciones. Factores como las guerras (Primera Guerra Mundial y Guerra Civil), las crisis financieras, las restricciones impuestas por la regulación financiera, el intervencionismo estatal o el propio desarrollo de la economía condicionaron su evolución desde un sistema escasamente desarrollado alrededor de 1900, hasta un sistema moderno y con un peso notable en la economía española. El artículo repasa las diferentes fases por las que atravesó esta evolución

  Over the last 125 years, the Spanish banking system has undergone major transformations. Factors such as wars (World War I and the Civil War), financial crises, the restrictions imposed by financial regulation, state interventionism and the development of the economy itself have conditioned its evolution from a system that was scarcely developed around 1900 to a modern system with a notable weight in the Spanish economy. The article reviews the different phases through which this evolution took place
