    El objetivo de esta ponencia es analizar el contexto económico que encontraban los indianos extremeños a su regreso, haciendo una caracterización del sector primario económico extremeño. Se destaca el papel clave de la ganadería y la agricultura como ejes de la región, rompiendo con el mito del “desierto económico”; se analizan los recursos y dinámicas que marcaron el sector durante los siglos XVII y XVIII (el enfrentamiento con los trashumantes, la defensa de los bienes comunales, o la destrucción asociada los conflictos bélicos ocurridos en su territorio) y el desarrollo del entramado comercial asociado a las ferias ganaderas. Para finalizar se plantearán futuras líneas de investigación para cuantificar el retorno de los emigrados a América y poder analizar de forma más concreta el impacto de la inyección del capital indiano en el sector primario extremeño y en el resto de sectores económicos.

    The objective of this paper is to analyze the economic context that the indianos of Extremadurafound upon their return, making a characterization of the primary economic sector ofExtremadura. The key role of livestock and agriculture as the axes of the region is highlighted,breaking with the myth of the "economic desert"; The resources and dynamics that marked thesector during the 17th and 18th centuries are analyzed (the confrontation with transhumants, thedefense of communal pasture, or the destruction associated with the armed conflicts thatoccurred in their territory) and the development of the commercial network associated withlivestock fairs.Finally, future lines of research are considered to quantify the return of emigrants to Americaand to be able to analyze more specifically the impact of the injection of indianos’ capital in theprimary sector of Extremadura and in the rest of the economic sectors.
