Resumen de Implementación del Downsizing en motores de gasolina: ¿Menos consumo igual potencia?

  El downsizing es una herramienta que están explotando muchos fabricantes de automóviles con la que se intenta conseguir un mayor rendimiento y eficiencia con motores de menor tamaño pero con mayor evolución. Para ello, se reduce el número de pistones y la cilindrada pero la potencia específica es mayor y cuentan con consumos menores. El objetivo de estudio es analizar sobre el consumo y potencia de los motores con la implementación del downsizing en motores de gasolina. Por medio de la investigación documental, se obtuvo, que los motores de combustión interna actuales y donde se ha implementado el downsizing, son motores más eficientes con un bajo consumo de combustible, esto es debido a factores como; el avance de la electrónica en el campo automotriz, reemplazando componentes mecánicos por componentes electrónicos, lo cual indica que con motores sobrealimentados con una cilindrada menor, se logra obtener una mayor eficiencia. Sin embargo, hay autores que comentan, que con el downsizing, los motores son menos fiables, más ruidosos, tienen un mayor nivel de vibraciones, ofrecen un rendimiento inferior.  En definitiva, han dejado de ser atractivos y su tiempo ya ha pasado.

  Downsizing is a tool that many car manufacturers are exploiting in an attempt to achieve greater performance and efficiency with smaller but more evolved engines. To do this, the number of pistons and the displacement are reduced, but the specific power is greater and they have lower consumption. The objective of the study is to analyze the consumption and power of the engines with the implementation of downsizing in gasoline engines. Through documentary research, it was obtained that current internal combustion engines and where downsizing has been implemented, are more efficient engines with low fuel consumption, this is due to factors such as;

  the advancement of electronics in the automotive field, replacing mechanical components with electronic components, which indicates that with supercharged engines with a smaller displacement, greater efficiency is achieved. However, there are authors who comment that with downsizing, the motors are less reliable, noisier, have a higher level of vibrations, and offer lower performance. In short, they have ceased to be attractive and their time has passed.
