  • Resumen
    • Effective mentoring is crucial in helping beginner and pre-service teachers negotiate theory-practice dilemmas. However, in Hong Kong, there is no requirement for schools to provide mentoring for teachers. In response to these needs, I formed an online mentoring community for three groups of English language teachers (pre-service, beginner and expert teachers) to learn together as mentors and mentees in a virtual third space. Findings suggest that the creation of a virtual third space for mentoring offered beginner, expert and pre-service teachers opportunities to disclose difficult teaching dilemmas, which led to new understandings of teaching. The study highlights how virtual third spaces can offer a supportive community for experienced and new teachers to learn together in contexts where face-to-face mentoring may be problematic or not available.
