El artículo se centra en analizar el film El poder del perro de Jane Campion (Australia, 2021) tomando como eje la deconstrucción del género western y las transformaciones que surgen de la historia en relación a la homosexualidad, la homofobia y la violencia.
La historia se enmarca en el año 1925, en las zonas montañosas de Montana, donde viven los hermanos Burbank, dueños del rancho más grande de la zona. Phil el hermano mayor, un personaje violento e insensible en apariencia; y el menor George, sumiso y elegante.
George se enamora de Rose, cuyo hijo Peter, en apariencia homosexual, es víctima de las burlas de Phil. En este contexto, se desarrolla la historia donde el doble sentido se hace presente, tanto en la mirada del arquetipo masculino como en los subtextos de la narración que brindan nuevos significados al relato.
A partir de los subtextos y las connotaciones que están presentes en el film, es posible rastrear la ambigüedad de los personajes y la historia; así como también los quiebres de los estereotipos propios del género western.

The article focuses on analyzing the film The Power of the Dog by Jane Campion (Australia, 2021) taking as its axis the deconstruction of the western genre and the transformations that arise from the story in relation to homosexuality, homophobia and violence.
The story is framed in the year 1925, in the mountainous areas of Montana, where the Burbank brothers, owners of the largest ranch in the area, live. Phil, the older brother, a seemingly insensitive and violent character; and his younger brother George, submissive and elegant. George falls in love with Rose, whose apparently gay son Peter is teased by Phil. In this context, the story develops, in which the double meaning is present, both in the gaze of the male archetype and in the subtexts of the narration that provide new meanings to the story.
From the subtexts and connotations that are present in the film, it is possible to trace the ambiguity of the characters and the story; as well as the breaks of the stereotypes of the western genre.

O artigo tem como foco a análise do filme The Power of the Dog de Jane Campion (Austrália, 2021) tomando como eixo a desconstrução do gênero western e as transformações que decorrem da história em relação à homossexualidade, homofobia e violência.
A história se passa no ano de 1925, nas áreas montanhosas de Montana, onde vivem os irmãos Burbank, proprietários da maior fazenda da região. Phil, o irmão mais velho, um personagem aparentemente insensível e violento; e o jovem George, submisso e elegante.
George se apaixona por Rose, cujo filho aparentemente gay, Peter, é provocado por Phil.
Nesse contexto, a história se desenvolve onde o duplo sentido está presente, tanto no olhar do arquétipo masculino quanto nos subtextos da narrativa que dão novos sentidos à história.
A partir dos subtextos e conotações presentes no filme, é possível traçar a ambiguidade dos personagens e da história; bem como a quebra dos estereótipos do gênero western.
