  • Resumen
    • Northern Protestant clergymen supported President Andrew Johnson in 1865, but during 1866–1868 they repudiated him primarily because he had forsaken Radicalism in favor of a moderation which they believed would ruin the country. This article attempts to analyze and evaluate the tactics used by the pulpit as they exaggerated Johnson's characteristics and painted a distorted image of him during both periods.
