  • A rhetorical analysis of Pierre Vergniaud's speeches, delivered in the Legislative Assembly and the National Convention, reveals three different periods during each of which particular qualities of his rhetoric can be distinguished. Across the period studied here, Vergniaud's rhetoric gradually shifted from argument from definitions to argument from circumstances.
