    • The persuasive efforts of black speakers demonstrate that appeals are responded to self‐center edly, situationally, and are rejected if the threat to social acceptance is too great. This observation suggests that value appeals need more investigation and that critics should be wary of concluding effectiveness when value appeals are apparent.
