This examination of the comments on rhetoric and oratory in the letters of Cicero reviews the most significant of the orator's remarks on: (1) his own rhetorical works; (2) his attitude towards oratory; (3) the orations themselves; (4) the audience‐situation in Cicero's day; and (5) the subject of oratorical style.
