La visita episcopal en Nueva España fungió como un tribunal de justicia eclesiástica poco estudiado hasta ahora. Este artículo es un acercamiento a la labor como juez del arzobispo Alonso Núñez de Haro y Peralta durante su recorrido por las parroquias de la arquidiócesis de México a finales del siglo XVIII. Se hace énfasis en la participación activa de la feligresía en los foros de justicia durante la visita pastoral y en la caracterización de este tribunal itinerante como un espacio de negociación entre la mitra y los fieles.

The episcopal visit in New Spain served as a court of ecclesiastical justice little studied until now. This paper is an approach to the work as a judge of Archbishop Alonso Núñez de Haro during his tour of the parishes of the archdiocese of Mexico at the end of the 18th century. Emphasis is placed on the active participation of the parishioners in the justice forums during the pastoral visit, and on the characterization of this itinerant court as a space for negotiation between the miter and the Christians.
