La arquitectura de valor patrimonial, como un acto de indiscutible permanencia en el tiempo, tiene la particularidad de ser el reflejo fiel del pensamiento humano y el transcurrir de su memoria histórica de generación en generación. La Catedral de Cartagena de Indias, pieza fundamental en los procesos de la colonización de almas en épocas virreinales, ha sido testigo de muchos acontecimientos, siendo a su vez objeto de múltiples transformaciones que han sido impronta de viejos tiempos y que han caracterizado su proceso evolutivo acorde a las dinámicas de la ciudad. En este artículo mostramos ese proceso y las modificaciones que le han aportado, no solo a su arquitectura, sino también al constructo social y la memoria histórica que ella representa para todos los cartageneros y Colombia en general.

The architecture ofpatrimonial value, as an act of indisputable permanence in time, has the particularity of being the faithful reflection of human thought and the passage of its historical memory from generation to generation. The Cathedral of Cartagena de Indias, a fundamental piece in the processes of the colonization of souls in viceregal times, has witnessed many events, being in turn the object of multiple transformations that have been the imprint of old times and that have characterized its evolutionary process. according to the dynamics of the city. In this article we show that process and the modifications that have contributed, not only to its architecture, but also to the social construct and the historical memory that it represents for all Cartagena and Colombia in general.
