Resumen de Linking Teacher Leadership to Instruction and Student Learning: a systematic review

Leydi Gabriela Achach Sonda, Edith J. Cisneros-Cohernour

  • The aim of this systematic review was to identify the link of teacher leadership to instruction and student learning in both English-speaking countries and Latin America, primarily in elementary education. In conducting the review, we followed the protocol proposed by Newman and Gough (Systematic reviews in educational research. Springer, Wiesbaden, 2020); we analyzed and synthesized the results of 41 empirical articles. The findings indicate that there is a possible link between teacher leadership and instruction when teachers are supported and trained by a teacher leader. In addition, teacher leaders carry out curricular tasks such as creating support materials, specific curriculum, and formative evaluations that facilitate student-centered teaching. Some of these studies show that student knowledge can improve when there was an intervention performed by the teacher leader. More research is needed in Latin America.
