    Cryphiops caementarius es un camarón nativo que sostiene una pesquería artesanal en cuencas del norte de Chile, especialmente en la cuenca del río Choapa. Actualmente sus poblaciones se encuentran amenazadas por los continuos encauzamientos fluviales derivados de la megasequía que afecta a esta zona del país. Basados en el conocimiento científico y tradicional de C. caementarius y la cuenca, se recomendaron medidas para preservar el hábitat de los tramos fluviales que serán intervenidos y de este modo reducir el riesgo de mortandades de camarones. Las medidas fueron direccionadas hacia un trabajo colaborativo entre los ejecutores de las obras y las organizaciones de camaroneros del Choapa, cuya experiencia permitió identificar parches de hábitats de resguardo para camarones, sin mortandades reportadas. Esta es la primera vez en Chile que se consideran criterios socioecológicos como medidas de mitigación para reducir el impacto de encauzamientos, frente a una especie con problemas de conservación.

    Cryphiops caementarius is a native prawn that supports an artisanal fishery in basins of northern Chile, especially in the Choapa river basin. Currently their populations are threatened by the continuous rivers channelings derived from the mega drought that affects this area of the country. Based on scientific and traditional knowledge of C. caementarius and the basin, measures were recommended to preserve the habitat of the fluvial sections to be intervened and thus reduce the risk of prawn mortalities. The measures were directed towards a collaborative work between the executors of the works and the prawn´s fisher of Choapa, whose experience allowed identifying patches of shelter habitats for prawns, without reported deaths. This is the first time in Chile, that socioecological criteria are considered as mitigation measures to reduce the impact of channelings, against a species with conservation problems
