Fernanda Melchor (México, 1982) ganó fama internacional con la publicación de su novela Temporada de huracanes (2017), relato de ficción que se inspira de la nota roja, nombre que recibe la narrativa del crimen en la prensa mexicana. Periodista de formación, Melchor ha reivindicado desde sus inicios la imposibilidad del objetivismo periodístico. Sin embargo, reconoce que el tratamiento ficcional de su novela le fue impuesto por el contexto de extrema violencia que se vive en Veracruz, su estado natal. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar los mecanismos que la autora retoma tanto de la novela negra alternativa latinoamericana (tesis desarrollada por el escritor Diego Trelles Paz, 2017), así como del nuevo periodismo para ofrecernos un relato posible allí donde el narcotráfico y la corrupción han creado zonas inaccesibles. Por último, se reflexiona sobre la fascinación que ejerce la nota roja en su escritura: una fascinación que funciona unas veces como crítica social ante la impunidad, otras como espejo de nuestros más oscuros impulsos.

Fernanda Melchor (Mexico, 1982) gained international fame with the publication of her novel Hurricane Season (2017), a fictional story inspired by the nota roja, the name given to the crime news in the Mexican press. As a journalist, Melchor has always claimed the impossibility of journalistic objectivism. However, she acknowledges that the fictional treatment of her novel was imposed on her by the context of extreme violence that exists in Veracruz, her home state. The objective of this work is to analyse the mechanisms that the author takes up both from Latin American alternative crime fiction (thesis developed by the writer Diego Trelles Paz, 2017), as well as from new journalism to offer us a possible story where drug trafficking and corruption have created inaccessible areas. Finally, we reflect on the fascination exerted by the nota roja in her writing: a fascination that works sometimes as a social criticism of impunity and, other times, as a mirror of our darkest impulses.
