La Guerra Civil en los territorios españoles del Golfo de Guinea: la percepción del conflicto desde tierras remotas y el conflicto en la colonia

    La Guerra Civil española es una fuente inagotable de publicaciones llevadas a cabo tanto por historiadores y periodistas españoles como de otras latitudes. Sin embargo, hay todavía mucho por contar, y entre lo que falta me he atrevido a investigar una parte de la historia del conflicto armado en unas tierras poco conocidas a las que pocos han prestado atención. Solemos olvidar que España durante la República y el Franquismo disponía de posesiones más allá de la Península y de las Islas Canarias. Este es el caso de la Guinea Española en el corazón del África tropical que durante la Segunda República fue bautizada como los Territorios Españoles del Golfo de Guinea.En este artículo, propiciado por la preparación de una clase que he impartido en la asig-natura Espacios y Fronteras Coloniales del Máster de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Universitat de Barcelona, me propongo dar a conocer cómo fue percibido el inicio dela Guerra Civil en Guinea y cómo se vivió el conflicto en esas tierras. Conoceremos cómo era la situación política, social, y económica previa a la guerra, asistiremos a un enfrenta-miento armado en la selva, y a un bombardeo de un buque en la Bahía de Bata. Y esto lo vamos a ver con alguna bibliografía pero sobre todo con fuentes periodísticas a través de las páginas del diario de La Guinea Española y también de La Vanguardia.

    The Spanish Civil War is an inexhaustible source of publications carried out by both Spanish historians and journalists and those from other latitudes. However, there is still much to tell, and among what is missing I have dared to investigate a part of the history of the armed conflict in little-known lands to which few have paid attention. We tend to forget that Spain during the Republic and Francoism had possessions beyond the Peninsula and the Canary Islands. This is the case of Spanish Guineain the heart of tropical Africa, which during the Second Republic was baptized as the Spanish Territories of the Gulf of Guinea.In this article, prompted by the preparation of a class that I have taught in the subject Colonial Spaces and Borders of the Master of Latin American Studies at the University of Barcelona, I propose to present how the beginning of the Civil War in Guinea was percei-ved and how The conflict was experienced in those lands. We will learn what the political, social, and economic situation was like before the war, we will witness an armed confron-tation in the jungle, and a bombing of a ship in Bata Bay. And we are going to see this with some bibliography but above all with journalistic sources through the pages of the newspaper La Guinea Española and also La Vanguardia.
