The comments received by female users of the shooter video game Valorant are a reflection of the sexist society in which we live. Moreover, these comments are filtered through the anonymity and dehumanization of the internet. The comments, loaded with aggression and misogynistic ideas, seem to indicate that the world of shooter-style video games is still a masculinised terrain where women are perceived as an inferior “thing” that does not even deserve the common toxicity of video games, but rather generates a new typology of insults specific to their status as women. In an analysis of 147 interactions between male and female Spanish-speaking Valorant users, differences were observed between the intentionality and typology of the messages when the people receiving the messages were women.
