    Vietnam persigue la patrimonialización del traje llamado áo dài, atuendo tradicional que tiene una historia relativamente corta pero de gran interés en términos sociopolíticos. Este artículo sostiene que el áo dài recibe un trato de favor en detrimento de otras tipologías de vestimenta vietnamitas, y que se ha convertido en una herramienta de poder blando. Para acercarse a los orígenes y dar a conocer la evolución del áo dài se presenta un sucinto recorrido por su desarrollo formal, así como por los cambiantes valores simbólicos que se le han ido asignado a lo largo del siglo xx.

    Vietnam is engaged in the heritage-making process of the garment called áo dài, a traditional outfit with a relatively short history that is nonetheless of great interest in sociopolitical terms. This article argues that the áo dài is being privileged over other types of Vietnamese clothing, and that it has become a tool of soft power. To become acquainted with the origins and the evolution of the áo dài, the text provides an introduction to its formal development, and discusses the changing symbolic values that have been assigned to this attire throughout the 20th century.
