Resumen de Estudio del fenómeno de las abuelas y los abuelos cuidadores

  En el presente artículo se diagnostica la situación actual de las abuelas y los abuelos cuidadores en dos diferentes realidades: zona urbana y zona rural de la provincia de Tungurahua, con el propósito de identificar las actividades y el tiempo de cuidado empleado hacia sus nietos, las causas que propiciaron la aceptación del rol de cuidador y las consecuencias de su desarrollo. Se utilizó la metodología cuantitativa, a través de un estudio descriptivo, logrando aplicar 300 cuestionarios en toda la provincia. Como resultado, se evidencia la presencia femenina como figura principal de cuidado. Además, se identificó la actividad laboral de los progenitores como una de la causa más relevante para solicitar la intervención de los abuelos en el núcleo familiar. Entre las conclusiones alcanzadas destaca el nuevo papel del abuelo en la familia como padre sustituto al permanecer tantos años y horas al día con sus nietos y sentir mínimamente sobrecarga al realizar actividades de cuidado.

  In the present article, the current situation of the caretaking grandparents is diagnosed in two different realities: urban area and rural area of ​​the Tungurahua province, with the purpose of identifying the activities and the time of care used towards their grandchildren, the causes that led to the acceptance of the caregiver role and the consequences of its development. The quantitative methodology was used, through a descriptive study, managing to apply 300 questionnaires throughout the province. As a result, the female presence as the main figure of care is evident. In addition, the parental work activity was identified as one of the most relevant causes for requesting the intervention of grandparents in the family nucleus. Among the conclusions reached, the grandfather's new role in the family as a surrogate father stands out, as he remains with so many years and hours a day with his grandchildren and feels minimally overburdened when doing care activities.
