The present work aims to analyse the use of food and the main meals - lunches and dinners - in the historical novel O Santo da Montanha, published in 1866, by Camilo Castelo Branco, a prolific portuguese author belonging to the so-called second romantic generation, as a narrative tool to reveal the social paradigms of the old noble class of the 19th century, in phase of decay parallel to the ascendancy of the bourgeoisie.
O presente trabalho visa analisar o emprego da comida e das principais refeições – almoços e jantares – na novela histórica O Santo da Montanha, editada em 1866, de Camilo Castelo Branco, prolífico autor português pertencente à chamada segunda geração romântica, como instrumento narrativo para relevar os paradigmas sociais da antiga classe fidalga do século XIX em fase de decadência paralelamente à ascendência da burguesia.
