Chile en la asimetría doble, 1883-1930: más débil que Estados Unidos y más fuerte que Perú

    El artículo aborda los desafíos de la política exterior y de las relaciones internacionales de Chile, en la post Guerra del Pacífico. Basados en el esquema de asimetría doble, afirmamos que el país actuó como un Estado intermedio, con una política exterior pragmática, centrada en compensar su debilidad frente al regresivo cambio del contexto internacional, caracterizado por la declinación del Reino Unido, el ascenso de Estados Unidos, y por la hostilidad vecinal derivada de la guerra.

    En este escenario, Chile debió ajustar su política exterior para preservar sus grandes intereses, mostrando su conciencia de Estado intermedio y pragmático, más fuerte que Perú y más débil que Estados Unidos.

    Las investigaciones que sustentan este trabajo están basadas en la historiografía especializada y en las fuentes primarias depositadas en los archivos que hemos citado en el texto.

    The article addresses the challenges of Chile's foreign policy and international relations in the post-Pacific War period. Based on the double asymmetry scheme, we affirm that the country acted as an intermediate state, with a pragmatic foreign policy, focused on compensating its weakness in the face of the regressive change of the international context, characterized by the decline of the United Kingdom, the rise of the United States, and the hostility of its neighbors derived from the war.In this scenario, Chile had to adjust its foreign policy to preserve its major interests, showing its awareness of being an intermediate and pragmatic state, stronger than Peru and weaker than the United States.The research that supports this work is based on specialized historiography and on the primary sources deposited in the archives that we have cited in the text.
