Resumen de Merleau‐Ponty, semiology, and the new rhetoric

Richard L. Lanigan

  • Merleau‐Ponty is an existential phenomenologist whose theory of communication is based upon a sign system linking perception and expression in speech. His concepts of “authentic” and “empirical” speech suggest an original approach for describing and explaining “man speaking.” Such an approach represents a vital addition to those theories constituting the New Rhetoric.
