Resumen de ¿Crisis u oportunidad? Trayectorias de adaptación de comerciantes gaditanos ante los cambios finiseculares del XVIII

  Desde hace años se ha generado un intenso debate sobre el comercio gaditano de finales del siglo XVIII y principios del XIX. Mientras unos autores calibraron el hundimiento mercantil de la plaza, otros han matizado y revisado esta tesis al proponer que hubo un proceso de adaptación gradual hasta 1820. Este artículo pretende ofrecer una mirada diferente a través del análisis de seis trayectorias familiares (Ágreda, Gargollo, González Nandín, Izquierdo, Retortillo y Rábago). Su objetivo es analizar las estrategias de acomodación de estas parentelas y, así, comprobar microscópicamente hasta qué punto hubo un verdadero hundimiento del comercio, o si por el contrario se desplegaron mecanismos para prolongar y mantener la actividad mercantil y financiera.

  For years there was an intense debate on the trade of Cádiz at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. While some authors affirmed the commercial collapse, others have qualified and revised this thesis by proposing that it was a process of gradual adaptation until 1820. This article aims to offer a different perspective through the analysis of six family trajectories (Ágreda, Gargollo, González Nandín, Izquierdo, Retortillo and Rábago) and its objective is to analyse the accommodation strategies of these relatives, and thus to verify microscopically to what extent there was a true collapse of trade, or if, on the contrary, mechanisms were deployed to prolong and maintain the activity mercantile and financial.
