    Este trabajo rescata y pone en valor dos documentos colonia-les depositados en el Archivo Franciscano, los cuales integran el Fondo Colegio de Propaganda Fide de Chillán. Las fuentes aluden al rescate de una hispana cautiva y su hijo, entregan-do valiosa información sobre el itinerario que seguían algunas prisioneras mientras se encontraban en posesión de sus capto-res indígenas. Por otra parte, queda en evidencia el importante rol de mediadores que desempeñaban los miembros del Cole-gio de Chillán para asegurar el retorno de dichas mujeres y sus hijos a tierras cristianas, revelando el papel multifacético de los religiosos en el contexto fronterizo en que estaban insertos. Los valiosos datos que entregan estas fuentes documentales son un valioso puntal para reevaluar el quehacer y alcance de los hijos de San Francisco en la dinámica interétnica que por siglos se tejió en la geografía meridional del Reino de Chile.

    This work rescues and puts into value two colonial documents deposited in the Franciscan Archive, which integrate the Fondo Colegio de Propaganda Fide de Chillán. The sources allude to the rescue of a Hispanic captive and her son, providing valuable information on the itinerary followed by some prisoners while possessing their indigenous captors. On the other hand, the cri-tical role of mediators played by the members of the Colegio de Chillán to ensure the return of these women and their children to Christian lands is evident, revealing the multifaceted role of the religious in their frontier context. The valuable data provided by these documentary sources are a useful prop to reevaluate the work and scope of the sons of San Francisco in the interethnic dynamics that, for centuries, were woven into the southern geo-graphy of the Kingdom of Chile.
