    Este artículo analiza la importancia que los gobiernos locales salvadoreños que conforman el Área Metropolitana de San Salvador (AMSS) le atribuyen al asociativismo municipal en la identificación de buenas prácticas en materia de desarrollo territorial y su contribución a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible. La metodología utilizada en el proceso de investigación posee un enfoque cualitativo de tipo exploratorio, que implicó la revisión documental y programática de la Oficina de Planificación del Área Metropolitana de San Salvador (OPAMSS), y un instrumento de entrevista a profundidad que permitió realizar una caracterización de la asociación municipal de los catorce gobiernos locales pertenecientes al AMSS. Los resultados del estudio identifican potencialidades y desafíos en torno a los criterios de inclusión, cooperación y fortalecimiento de capacidades en la gestión de procesos de desarrollo territorial, aspectos necesarios para la contribución estratégica de la Agenda 2030.

    This article analyzes the importance that Salvadoran local governments as part of the San Salvador Metropolitan Area (SSMA) attribute to municipal associativism in the identification of good practices in territorial development, as well as the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. The methodology used in the research process has a qualitative approach of an exploratory type that involved the documentary and programmatic review of the Planning Office of the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador (POMASS) and an in-depth interview instrument that allowed a characterization of the municipal association of the fourteen local governments belonging to the SSMA. The results of the study identify potentialities and challenges around the criteria of inclusion, cooperation, and capacity building in the management of territorial development processes, necessary aspects for the strategic contribution of the 2030 Agenda.
