    El impacto de la actividad edificatoria vinculada al fenómeno turístico de la década de los 60 desencadenó una nueva escena urbana en la costa alicantina que actualmente presenta un paisaje de inmuebles deteriorados y adulterados. Sin embargo, en el escenario existen y resisten modelos cuyos condicionantes iniciales de diseño han favorecido su adaptación temporal. Este artículo destaca uno de ellos, el edificio Scala de la Playa de San Juan, desde una aproximación a su contexto histórico así como a los fundamentos arquitectónicos del autor, Jesús García del Castillo. Mediante un planteamiento organizado en torno a los criterios de modernidad aplicados al proyecto, la investigación identifica la implantación de la edificación, su honestidad material y la distribución racional como tres aspectos relevantes para mantener, 50 años después de su construcción, la vigencia del edificio Scala. Las consideraciones finales enlazan la valoración del edificio con el panorama actual de la arquitectura turística.

    The impact of building activity linked to the tourist phenomenon of the 60s triggered a new urban scene on the Alicante coast that currently presents a landscape of deteriorated and adulterated buildings. However, in the scenario there are and resist models whose initial design conditions have favored their temporary adaptation. This article highlights one of them, the Scala building on Playa de San Juan, from an approach to its historical context as well as the architectural foundations of the author, Jesús García del Castillo. Through an approach organized around the criteria of modernity applied to the project, the research identifies the implementation of the building, its material honesty and rational distribution as three relevant aspects to maintain, 50 years after its construction, the validity of the Scala building. The final considerations link the valuation of the building with the current panorama of tourist architecture.
