    L’objectiu d’aquest article és aproximar-nos al coneixement de la figura de Cristòfol Sanç (1570-1630), antic justícia d’Elx. Se’l coneix sobretot perquè és autor d’un text que es considera la primera història de la ciutat. La seua anàlisi permet albirar no només un intent d’abast cronològic complet, sinó el contorn ideològic de l’autor, un conegut patrici vinculat als cercles de governament de la població. Fruit destacat d’aquesta història, o Recopilación de fets històrics, és la construcció de l’ il·licitanisme , un discurs patriòtic nodrit des de la seua particular visió de les runes d’ Ilici , la ciutat romana abandonada, però pròxima a l’emplaçament andalusí ( Ilš ), origen de l’Elx actual. Aquest patriotisme, amb la seua obliqua romanitat, pervisqué en Sanç fins a tocar el nucli del discurs oficial contemporani d’aquest municipi valencià.

    The aim of this essay is to gain an insight into the figure of Cristòfol Sanç (1570-1630), the ancient Justice of Elche. He is best known because he is the author of a text considered to be the first history of the city. His analysis allows us to discern not only an attempt at a complete chronological scope, but also the ideological contour of the author, a well-known patrician with a close connection to government circles. An outstanding result of this history, or compilation of historical facts, is the elaboration of il·licitanisme , a patriotic dis- course nourished from his particular vision of the rubble of Ilici , the abandoned Roman city but close to the Andalusian site ( Ilš ), the origin of present-day Elche. This patriotism, with its oblique Romanness, survived Sanç until it touched the core of the contemporary official discourse of this Valencian municipality
