  La existencia de una fuente más antigua que la Claveria Comuna nos sirve para introducirnos en el mundo marítimo valenciano durante la primera mitad del siglo XIV. Hacemos una descripción de los tipos de embarcaciones y los problemas que afectaban al Reino de Valencia y a su capital teniendo en cuenta la flota mercante y la de guerra. Las embarcaciones más comunes en Valencia serán modelos tradicionales, de tamaño mediano y con predominio de la vela, relegando las galeras para la guerra. Las claves estratégicas de la política naval valenciana, por otro lado, se hallan en el norte de África, el estrecho de Gibraltar, y Mallorca y Sicilia, huyendo de los conflictos en el norte del Mediterráneo (Génova, Provenza y Cerdeña). Reservamos un segundo artículo para el problema más grave de todos: el frumentario.

  The existence of a source older than the ‘Claveria Comuna’ helps us to introduce ourselves to the Valencian maritime world, during the first half of the 14th century. We make a description of the types of vessels and the problems that affected the Kingdom of Valencia and its capital, considering the merchant fleet and the war fleet. The more common vessels in Valencia will be traditional, medium-sized models and with a predominance of the sail, relegating the galleys for war. The strategic keys of the Valencian naval policy, on the other hand, are found in North Africa, in the Strait of Gibraltar and in Majorca and Sicily, fleeing from the conflicts in the north of the Mediterranean (Genoa, Provence and Sardinia). We reserve a second article for the most serious of all, the frumentary problem.
