    En 1990 la estudiante de fotoperiodismo Therese Frare captó la agonía del joven activista y enfermo de Sida David Kirby. Una imagen impactante e indulgente, convertida en icono de la lucha contra el estigma hacia la enfermedad. A pesar del gran prestigio alcanzado el trabajo posterior entorno a uno de los cuidadores de este, el enigmático Peta, durante dos años hasta su muerte, también a causa del Sida, resultó mucho más profundo y complicado. Un viaje poético en la recta final de un ser extraordinario y fascinante cuya vida estuvo llena de dualidades. La conmovedora historia que componen las fotografías tomadas supuso otra manera de mostrar al portador del VIH, dentro de un género surgido durante los años más duros de esta epidemia, y un reto enternecedor al que se enfrentaron ambos.

    In 1990, photojournalism student Therese Frare captured the agony of the young activist and AIDS patient David Kirby. A striking and indulgent image made iconic in the fight against disease stigma. Despite the great prestige achieved, the subsequent work around one of his caretakers, the enigmatic Peta, for two years until his death, also due to AIDS, turned out to be much more deep an complicated. A poetic journey in the final stretch of an extraordinary and fascinating being whose life was full of dualities. The moving story that make up the photographs taken was another way of showing the HIV carrier within a genre that emerged during the hardest years of this disease and a touching challenge that both faced.
