  Este meritorio libro explora el valor que ejercen las emociones en las personas cuando visitan los museos y sitios patrimoniales. La investigación se realiza sobre la base de 4,502 entrevistas cualitativas realizadas a visitantes de 45 museos y lugares históricos de valor patrimonial en Australia, Estados Unidos e Inglaterra. Este estudio, que recopila una gran cantidad de datos de manera sistemática y sostenida (2004, 2007 y 2010-2013), tiene tres temas centrales: entender los procesos de valorización patrimonial, conocer la forma que los visitantes utilizan los sitios e identificar las consecuencias sociales que estos podrían tener. La autora sitúa al visitante en el centro de la discusión. Para ella, los visitantes no son un público pasivo, sino al contrario “son socios y cocreadores de los significados históricos y contemporáneos que poseen los sitios patrimoniales” (Smith, 2020, p. 307), los cuales describe como "teatros de la memoria y lugares de creación de patrimonio" (p. 305).

  This worthy book explores the value that emotions exert on people when they visit museums and heritage sites. The research is carried out on the basis of 4,502 qualitative interviews carried out with visitors to 45 museums and historical places of heritage value in Australia, the United States and England. This study, which collects a large amount of data in a systematic and sustained manner (2004, 2007 and 2010-2013), has three central themes: understanding the processes of heritage valorization, knowing the way visitors use the sites and identifying the consequences that these could have. The author places the visitor at the center of the discussion. For her, visitors are not a passive audience, but on the contrary “they are partners and co-creators of the historical and contemporary meanings that heritage sites possess” (Smith, 2020, p. 307), which she describes as “theaters of memory.” and places of heritage creation" (p. 305).
