    Partiendo de la polémica en torno al descubrimiento y significado del escudo de la ciudad, representado por tres columnas, monumento que aparece des- de antiguo, acompañado de piedras terminales o hitos que separaron en época del Imperio romano varias Civitas en territorio de la actual provincia de Salamanca, se analiza el estudio y conclusiones que sobre dichos elementos se llevaron a cabo des- de la Comisión Nacional de Antigüedades, estudios, que fueron impulsados a partir de los trabajos del epigrafista alemán Emil Hübner. Por último, se trata de dar luz a la posible relación de estas columnas con las que también parece que pudieron existir hasta hace unos siglos en la vecina y hoy abandonada ciudad romanizada de Irueña.

    Starting from the controversy surrounding the discovery and meaning of the shield of the city, represented by three columns, a monument that appears since ancient times, accompanied by terminal stones or milestones that separated several Civitas of the current province of Salamanca in the Roman Empire times, it is analysed the study and conclusions that on these elements were carried out from the National Commission of Antiquities, studies which were driven by the works of he German epigraphist Emil Hübner. Finally, it is a question of giving light to the possible relationship of these columns with those that also seem to have existed until a few centuries ago in the near and nowadays abandoned romanized city of Irueña.
