Resumen de La transformación de la écfrasis del escudo de Eneas ("Eneida" VIII 636-731) en "Lavinia", de Ursula Le Guin

En este trabajo analizamos el tratamiento que se da a la écfrasis del escudo de Eneas incluida en el libro VIII de la Eneida de Virgilio en la novela histórica Lavinia (2008), de la escritora norteamericana Ursula Le Guin, una reescritura de la Eneida desde el punto de vista de una mujer, Lavinia. El objeto artístico recreado por Virgilio con todo detalle se hace llamativo por los medios empleados para su descripción y por significado político e ideológico que las imágenes de la historia de Roma en él cincelada, lo hacen un texto capital y sometido a numerosas interpretaciones y reelaboraciones. La lectura feminista de Le Guin establece una serie de modificaciones tanto en el nivel del discurso (persona narrativa, focalización) como en el de la historia (selección y supresión, adición, reordenamiento, fragmentación) que le conceden un nuevo sentido y un nuevo valor.

In this paper we intend to analyze the treatment of the ekphrasis of Aeneas’ shield included in Virgil’s Aeneid book VIII made by the American writer Ursula K. Le Guin in her historical novel Lavinia (2008). This novel is a rewriting of the Aeneid from the gendered perspective and with the voice of a woman, Lavinia. The artistic object recreated by Virgil has become the subject of numerous interpretations and reworkings due to the resources used for its description and due to the political and ideological significance of the pictures of the History of Rome carved into it. So, it has been. The feminist reading carried out by Le Guin makes a series of modifications both at the level of discourse (narrative voice, focalization) and at the level of story (selection and suppression, addition, rearrangement, fragmentation) that grants the novel a new meaning and value.
