    A un siglo de distancia, la dimensión patricia de Carlos Pellegrini se agiganta. Contribuyen a ello no sólo sus acciones como primer magistrado, sino también los hechos y circunstancias que han configurado el perfil del país en esta centuria que ha visto crecer la población, transformarse sus instituciones, reformarse varias veces la Constitución y buscarse resoluciones a los muy diversos problemas nacionales, tanto por la vía constitucional cuanto por la apelación a instancias extralegales. Si tal perspectiva fuera correcta, Pellegrini se nos aparecería como uno de los cinco presidentes que fueron, asimismo, estadistas; es decir mandatarios que poseyeron una visión de largo plazo, una capacidad para decidir con acierto las medidas a adoptar y una fortaleza de ánimo que les ayudó a preocuparse por el bienestar general y no por los intereses partidistas. A todo esto habría que agregar que Pellegrini enfrentó la realidad provisto de una muy clara percepción de cómo realizar, con rapidez, lo que era necesario, o hacerlo posible con intrépida decisión. Y cuando llegue la hora de escribir la historia de la transformación de la República por la gran reforma electoral de comienzos del siglo XX, la ausencia del visionario Carlos Pellegrini se revelará como la más decisiva tragedia de nuestra vida política, ya que su muerte -acaecida cerca de un lustro antes- le impidió hacer su contribución a tan decisiva legislación.

    A century later, the patrician figure of Carlos Pellegrini becomes larger, not only by the contribution of his actions as President, but also due to the events and circumstances that characterized the country prolife during that century, when population grew, institutions changed, the Constitution was amended several times and Solutions to the very different national problems were sought through both constitutional and extra-legal means. If such perspective is right, Pellegrini will appear to us as one of the five Presidents that were, at the same time, statesmen, that is, presidents that had a long term visión of reality and prospects, the capacity to rightfully decide on the measures to be adopted and the strength of spirits that helped him to get involved and look for the general wellbeing and not for partisans’interests. In addition, Pellegrini faced reality with a very clear idea of how to tackle problems speedily, doing whatever was necessary, or doing it possible with daring decisión. And when time arrives to write the history of the transformation of the Nation due to the huge electoral Carlos Pellegrini will appear as the most determining tragedy in the political life of our country, as his death -occurred approximately five years before- prevented him from doing a major and decisive contribution to electoral legislation.
