Intelectualidad, canon y literatura en las revistas culturales antifascistas de la guerra civil española

    El golpe de Estado perpetrado por Franco en julio de 1936 supuso un punto de inflexión en la intelectualidad republicana antifascista. Durante los tres años que duró la Guerra Civil, los intelectuales crearon distintas asociaciones y publicaciones periódicas culturales para defender la Segunda República.

    De dichas publicaciones destacan El Mono Azul, Hora de España y Meridià, las dos primeras escritas en español y la tercera en catalán. Entre sus páginas los escritores abordaron qué es lo implica ser un intelectual de izquierdas frente a un antiintelectual; las relaciones entre intelectuales antifascistas españoles y catalanes; qué tipo de literatura representa al pueblo republicano, es decir, cuál es el canon literario pasado y actual que responde a una cultura democrática y contraria al fascismo; el discurrir de la guerra; así como la celebración del Segundo Congreso de Escritores para la Libertad de la Cultura.

    Por tanto, con esta propuesta queremos, por un lado, explicar el despliegue cultural que llevaron a cabo los intelectuales españoles y catalanes durante la Guerra Civil. Y, por otro lado, mostrar las similitudes y diferencias entre estos intelectuales a la hora de definir qué es lo que caracteriza al intelectual de izquierdas y a la literatura antifascista en los artículos publicados en El Mono Azul, Hora de España y Meridià.

    The coup d'état by Francisco Franco in July 1936 was a turning point for the anti-fascist republican intelligentsia. During the three years of the Civil War, intellectuals created associations and cultural magazines to defend the Spanish Second Republic.

    These publications include El Mono Azul, Hora de España and Meridià, the first two written in Spanish and the third one in Catalan. In its pages, the writers defined what it meant to be a left-wing intellectual opposite to an anti-intellectual; the relationship between Spanish and Catalan anti-fascist intellectuals; the kind of literature representative of the republican people, that is, what was the literary canon that responded to a democratic culture and contrary to fascism; the course of the war; as well as the celebration of the Second International Congress of Writers for the Defense of Culture.

    Therefore, on one hand we want to explain the cultural deployment carried out by Spanish and Catalan intellectuals during the Civil War. And, on the other hand, we want to show the similarities and differences between these intellectuals when defining what characterises the left-wing intellectual and anti-fascist literature in the articles published in El Mono Azul, Hora de España and Meridià.
